AMI Sponsored Events
AMI periodically sponsors major symposia on subject of general interest to the biomedical commmunity.
Previous Symposia sponsored by AMI:
Bionanotechnology: Academic and Industrial Partnerships in the UK and US - June 10th, 2004
Bionanotechnology is the new and exciting interface for biomedical and physical sciences at the nano scale. Both the United Kingdom and United States are world leaders in bio-nanotechnology, research, and the exploration of applications. This symposium showcased the potential for cooperation between these two leading countries. Discussion focused on research, experiences with commercialization, and opportunities for academic and industrial collaboration.
Electric Power in Vivo Workshop - Feburary 28th, 2004
AMI in conjunction with the USC department of Biomedical Engineering hosted this workshop to engender discussion about the potential means for generating electrical power within living organisms. The workshop topic was prompted by the developing need of electrical power for function and communication for in-vivo micro and nano devices.
The "Engineering the Future of Medicine" Series
Barriers to Drug Entry - March 31st, 2001
Novel methods of drug transport including transdermal, nanoparticulates, implated pumps, caged cells, aerosols and other techniques were examined by experts in the drug delivery field.
Putting the Brain in Command - July 8th, 2000
This symposium examined the issues related to functional electrical stimulation and sensory feedback.
Can We Make the Blind See? - February 19th, 2000
Experts in the fields of retinal and visual cortical stimulation, implantable hardware and retinal degeneration presented the state of research into restoring sight to the visually impaired.
